This is a 80cm x 60cm framed original cyanotype of a mature Wild Carrot leaf. I have used something called ‘Wet Cyanotype’ to produce the mottled blue effect. This process uses the addition of soap bubbles [alkali] and vinegar [acid] to alter the chemistry. It is a somewhat haphazard method and the element of surprise is fun. As I expose these cyanotypes for many hours the colour changes are numerous ending with tones of copper and gold. Fixing the print loses these colours and the different hues of blue return. Magical!
